Ridge ad teardown: Back to school, upgraded
A seasonal moment used to walk a wallet brand into phone accessories, with the creator co-sign held back until after the click.
“BACK TO SCHOOL, UPGRADED.”

Handoff: Partial
The tile is all product, the orange Ridge Magnetic Power Bank shown charging a phone, AirPods and a watch under four ticks, with no creator and no endorsement. The withheld payoff arrives immediately: the page opens on APPROVED BY MKBHD over "WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES A RIDGE POWER BANK WORTH CARRYING?", with the 5-in-1 claim restated in the subhead and a SHOP POWER BANKS button. What does not survive is the reason to buy now. "BACK TO SCHOOL, UPGRADED." appears nowhere on the page, which substitutes a green "UP TO 33% OFF, BUNDLE & SAVE" bar and a 2X ENTRIES sweepstakes graphic, so a seasonal buy becomes a bundle promotion.
The read
The third story in the capture is tech. The tile shows a hand holding an iPhone with a burnt orange Ridge Magnetic Power Bank snapped to the back, headline BACK TO SCHOOL, UPGRADED., a labelled bar reading RIDGE MAGNETIC POWER BANK, and four green ticks: 5-in-1 Power solution, Built in cables, MagSafe compatible, 20W Fast charging, with a MagSafe Compatible badge beneath. To the right of the copy the same pack sits in a row with a charging phone, AirPods and an Apple Watch, which shows the 5-in-1 claim rather than asserting it. The click goes to ridge.com/pages/tech-MKBHD-6RLP, a partner page named for a creator who appears nowhere on the tile.
What the ad does
- Four ticks doing objection work, not feature listing. 5-in-1 Power solution, Built in cables, MagSafe compatible and 20W Fast charging each answer a specific reason a power bank gets abandoned in the cart, and the second image, the pack in a row with a charging phone, AirPods and an Apple Watch, proves the 5-in-1 line rather than asking for trust on it.
- The season supplies a deadline the category lacks. A power bank has no urgency of its own, so "BACK TO SCHOOL, UPGRADED." borrows one and puts a wallet brand's electronics in front of people during the exact fortnight they are buying kit for a new routine. That is how a category extension gets a hearing from an audience that came for wallets.
- The co-sign is held until after the click. No creator appears on the tile, but the destination is ridge.com/pages/tech-MKBHD-6RLP and it opens on APPROVED BY MKBHD. That keeps the cold creative cheap to re-cut across colorways while the partner page carries credibility for anyone arriving doubtful that a wallet company should be selling charging hardware.
Objective fit
Conversion / Purchase. A dedicated partner page rather than a product page suggests the click is being asked to persuade as well as transact, which is what a category extension usually needs.
Ridge ran this conversion creative to the landing page it clicked through to, both captured August 2026. A seasonal moment used to walk a wallet brand into phone accessories, with the creator co-sign held back until after the click. Read as a pair, the handoff rates partial.

- What to fix: Check what the partner page opens on before treating the withheld co-sign as free.

The tech push is wider than one product. The same capture holds an Atomic Purple wallet launch selling 90s clear-plastic nostalgia against Apple Find My and MagSafe badges, a second Atomic Purple execution, an iPhone pairing tile and further power bank colorways. All observed 2026-08-19.

Check what the partner page opens on before treating the withheld co-sign as free. It pays here, but the reason to buy now does not survive the click: "BACK TO SCHOOL, UPGRADED." appears nowhere on the page, which substitutes "UP TO 33% OFF, BUNDLE & SAVE" and a 2X ENTRIES sweepstakes graphic, so a seasonal buy becomes a bundle promotion. Put the season back on the first screen, or run the seasonal cut against a product page and leave the creator page for warm traffic.
