About the Practice
4 questions
What does Taylor Sicard Consulting do?
Taylor Sicard Consulting works with two types of clients: established direct-to-consumer brands navigating scale, and software companies and apps operating within the Shopify ecosystem. The work spans strategy, organizational design, go-to-market, and advisory — depending on what a client actually needs to move faster.
Who do you typically work with?
On the brand side, clients are typically DTC companies doing $5M or more in revenue that are hitting growth or operational ceilings. On the SaaS and ecosystem side, clients include Shopify app founders, solution partners, and platform businesses looking for strategic guidance from someone who has been in the ecosystem since its early days.
What makes your background relevant?
Taylor was one of Shopify's early employees and has spent the years since working with, investing in, and advising DTC brands and commerce software companies. That background includes multiple SaaS companies scaled to over $100M in ARR and consumer brands from single-digit millions to hundreds of millions in revenue — including one of the world's largest consumer brands, a case study that has never cleared their legal team but one I'm able to reference in broad terms. That cross-functional experience — operator, investor, advisor — means the guidance is grounded in what actually works, not just theory.
Do you take on investor or advisory board roles?
Yes, but selectively and on a case-by-case basis. Whether it makes sense depends on bandwidth, existing engagements, and market conditions. If you're looking for a formal board seat or advisory arrangement, include that in your inquiry and we can discuss fit.
02
Engagements & Process
6 questions
How does a typical engagement work?
Every engagement starts with a scoping conversation to understand what you're trying to solve and what a good outcome actually looks like. From there, the structure depends on the work — some clients are best served by a defined project (a strategy sprint, a go-to-market plan, an audit), while others benefit from an ongoing relationship. We'll agree on scope, deliverables, and timeline before anything begins.
Do you work on retainer or project basis?
Both. Retainer engagements typically run 12+ months and roll into month-to-month after that. Shorter project-based sprints are available for defined scopes with clear deliverables. We'll determine the right structure during the scoping conversation.
How long do engagements typically last?
Most engagements run 12 months, rolling to month-to-month after that, with mutual opt-outs built into the contract from the start. In over a decade of client work, I've never needed a refund clause — but it's there if you want it.
What does the inquiry process look like?
Fill out the inquiry form with a brief description of your situation and what you're hoping to accomplish. I review every submission personally and respond within a few business days. If it sounds like a potential fit, we'll set up a short intro call to go deeper.
Do you work with early-stage companies, or only established ones?
The focus is on companies that have meaningful traction — typically brands doing $5M+ in revenue, or SaaS companies past initial product-market fit. That said, if you're close to that threshold or have an unusual situation, reach out anyway.
Do you work with international brands or only US-based?
Open to both. Shopify is a global platform and DTC is a global playbook. Time zone and communication preferences will factor into scoping, but geography alone isn't a barrier.
03
Services & Expertise
4 questions
What specific services do you offer?
Services fall into four areas: Shopify Ecosystem Advisory (for apps, partners, and platform businesses), DTC Brand Consulting (for direct-to-consumer brands at scale), Consumer SaaS Strategy (for software companies targeting consumer and SMB markets), and Enterprise Commerce Innovation (for larger organizations modernizing their commerce infrastructure). Each is tailored to the client's situation — there are no off-the-shelf packages.
Can you help with fundraising?
I know a number of venture groups well and often help with diligence from the operator side. I can help you sharpen your narrative, evaluate your positioning relative to investors, and pressure-test your model. I don't operate as a placement agent, but I can help you sharpen your preparation and make introductions where there's a real fit.
Do you offer fractional executive services (e.g., fractional CMO or CSO)?
Available but not typical. Fractional arrangements make sense in select cases where the scope and fit are right. Include this in your inquiry and we can discuss.
Are you available for speaking engagements or workshops?
Yes, selectively. Topics include DTC growth strategy, the Shopify ecosystem, and building consumer software companies. Reach out via the speaking inquiry form with the event details.
04
Pricing
2 questions
How much does it cost to work with you?
Engagements are priced based on scope and structure — there are a lot of variables that go into each engagement. Pricing is confirmed after the initial scoping conversation.
Do you offer any introductory or trial engagements?
Some clients start with a focused strategy session or audit before committing to a longer engagement. Opt-outs are built into every contract, so there's a natural way to reassess before extending.
05
Results & Fit
2 questions
What results can clients expect?
Results depend on the engagement, but common outcomes include increased revenue, improved profitability, and reduced mental load as an operator. I've operated and advised brands for over a decade — the guidance is grounded in what it actually takes to move the business, not theory.
How do I know if this is the right fit before committing?
The intro call is exactly for that. There's no pressure to move forward, and I'll be candid if I don't think the engagement is the right match. Good work starts with honest scoping.
