What I collect,
and why.
Plain version: the free tools compute in your browser and log an anonymous row so I know which ones are worth maintaining. If you hand over an email, you get your report, you go on my newsletter list, and you get two follow-up notes. Everything below is the detail.
01
Running a free tool
What happens if I run a tool and never enter my email?
The calculation runs entirely in your browser. When a result is produced, one row is logged to a private Google Sheet: the figures you entered, the headline result, and context about the visit (referring page, UTM parameters, landing page, device type, country, an anonymous visitor identifier, visit number, time on site, pages viewed, and the Google Analytics client ID). There is no name and no email address attached. I use it to see which tools get finished, which get abandoned, and which are worth maintaining.
What happens when I do enter my email?
Four things, and I would rather list them than let you find out one at a time:
- Your email is stored alongside that run's figures and result in the same private Google Sheet.
- Your report is emailed to you, through Resend.
- You are subscribed to the Commerce Dispatch, my newsletter, through Beehiiv. A welcome email is sent immediately. This is a marketing list, not a transactional one.
- You receive two follow-up emails, at two days and seven days. These are marketing emails. Both carry an unsubscribe link and a postal address, and unsubscribing stops them.
Is my store URL or my numbers shared with anyone?
No. The figures you enter and the store URL you audit are not sold, rented, or passed to anyone for their own use. They sit in my own Google Sheet and are processed by the services named on this page purely to deliver what you asked for. The store audit fetches your public storefront and Google's public PageSpeed data, the same things any visitor or crawler can see.
02
The newsletter
What is the Commerce Dispatch and how do I get off it?
Practitioner notes on scaling consumer brands and commerce software. It is a commercial newsletter: part of why I write it is that some readers eventually work with me. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe, and it is honoured immediately. You can also reply to any email, or write to hello@taylorsicard.com, and I will remove you by hand.
Can I get my data deleted?
Yes. Email hello@taylorsicard.com and I will delete your address from Beehiiv and remove the rows carrying it from the sheet. If you want a copy of what I hold on you first, ask and I will send it. This applies whether or not the law where you live gives you the right, because it is not much work and arguing about it would take longer.
03
Analytics and the rest of the site
What tracking runs on the site?
Google Tag Manager, which loads Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity, and Ahrefs Analytics. GA4 gives me page and event counts. Ahrefs gives me search traffic. Clarity records anonymised session replays and heatmaps on a sample of sessions, so I can see where pages confuse people; every tool's email form is marked as masked, so what you type into it is not recorded. The site also stores a small anonymous identifier in your browser so a repeat visit is not counted as a new person, and remembers whether you have dismissed the store-audit popup. No advertising pixels, no retargeting, no data brokers, and nothing that tries to put a name to an anonymous visitor.
Who processes this data, and where?
Netlify hosts the site and runs the functions. Google (Sheets, Analytics, Tag Manager, PageSpeed Insights), Microsoft (Clarity), Ahrefs (analytics), Beehiiv (newsletter), and Resend (report and follow-up emails) each handle a part of it. These are United States services, so if you are outside the US your data is processed there. Taylor Sicard Consulting is based in Ottawa, Canada, and I am the one responsible for it.
Something here is wrong, or you have a question this does not answer.
Write to hello@taylorsicard.com. If this page has drifted from what the site actually does, that is a bug and I want to know. Last updated 31 July 2026.
