rhode ad teardown: No cta homepage portraits
Four of the 47 statics run with no call to action button at all, and all four sit in the oldest cohort in the library, pointing at the homepage.
“rhode”

Handoff: Partial
The ad is a black and white portrait of Hailey Bieber with one word on it, rhode, no product, no claim and no button, and the objective is awareness rather than a click to a SKU. The homepage keeps that register almost exactly, one full-bleed studio portrait of the same face, a four-word line at lower right, Sun on the cheeks., and a single outlined pill reading POCKET BLUSH. There is no discount on either side, only FREE US SHIPPING ON ORDERS OVER $45 in the top bar, so nothing is re-raised that the ad did not raise. A homepage would normally be the weak destination, but here it is the only destination the ad could honestly resolve to. Rated Partial rather than Continuous because the destination is inferred: the recorded page is the brand homepage, not a click that was followed, so whether the ad actually lands here is not on record. If the click is followed and lands on this page, the rating can be revisited.
The read
A full-bleed black and white beauty portrait of Hailey Bieber facing the camera dead on, hair centre-parted and loose, an open white shirt, glossy lip, freckles left in. No product is in the frame. The only text is the white lowercase rhode wordmark set at mid-left, and the caption reads welcome to the world of rhode. What makes it worth filing is the ad unit itself. There is no call to action button underneath it. Nine of the 47 active US statics captured on 2026-08-19 started on 19 May 2026, the oldest cohort in the library, and all nine route to rhodeskin.com rather than a product page. Four of those nine carry no button whatsoever. Three months live is long enough that a missing button is not a trafficking error waiting to be caught, it is the unit as intended: an ad whose entire job is to leave a face and a wordmark behind and nothing else.
What the ad does
- Nothing in the frame marks it as advertising. No product, no headline, no price, and on four of the nine oldest statics no call to action button at all. What is left is a black and white portrait and a lowercase wordmark, which reads as a magazine page in the scroll and buys a longer look before the viewer classifies it as paid.
- Three months live settles the question of intent. Nine of the 47 active US statics captured on 2026-08-19 started on 19 May 2026, and every one of them routes to rhodeskin.com rather than a product page. A missing button that survives that long is not a trafficking slip, and the caption "welcome to the world of rhode" says what the unit was built to do.
- The homepage answers in the same register. One full-bleed portrait of the same face, the line "Sun on the cheeks." at lower right, and a single outlined pill reading POCKET BLUSH. The only money on screen is "FREE US SHIPPING ON ORDERS OVER $45" in the top bar, so nothing is re-raised on arrival that the ad never raised.
Objective fit
Awareness. There is no product named, no price, no offer, no urgency, and in four cases nothing to click. The only thing this buy can be measured on is reach, frequency and recall, which is what awareness means in practice. Filing it anywhere else would be pretending a response path exists.
rhode ran this awareness creative to the landing page it clicked through to, both captured August 2026. Four of the 47 statics run with no call to action button at all, and all four sit in the oldest cohort in the library, pointing at the homepage. Read as a pair, the handoff rates partial.

- What to fix: Copy the format only with the second layer already running. Four buttonless portraits are affordable because rhode has a converting product layer in the same account feeding the pixel, and a founder whose face does the recall work for free.

- Evidence
- Destination inferred The ad was captured, but the destination recorded is the brand's homepage rather than a click that was followed. The read is of that page, not of a confirmed click-through.

Variants of the same system (8)
The full 19 May 2026 cohort: nine statics, every one of them routed to rhodeskin.com rather than a product page, every one of them running the same welcome to the world of rhode or meet rhode caption. Four carry no call to action button, five do. The four without a button are the pure portraits with no product visible or a product held like a prop; the five with a button are the ones where a specific bottle or pot is being used on camera. Observed 2026-08-19.

Copy the format only with the second layer already running. Four buttonless portraits are affordable because rhode has a converting product layer in the same account feeding the pixel, and a founder whose face does the recall work for free. Without both, Meta has almost nothing to optimise toward and buys cheap impressions instead of future buyers. Plan the internal defence as well: a line item that cannot show its work is the first thing cut in a bad quarter.
