Is your listing turning views into installs?

For a well-positioned Shopify App Store listing, view-to-install runs roughly 3 to 8% in 2026, and the spread is mostly social proof: apps with under 25 reviews tend to convert at 1 to 2%, apps with 200+ reviews convert at 5 to 8%. This is the step above the free-to-paid math: benchmark your listing funnel against your review cohort and see the installs a stronger listing unlocks.

What a good App Store listing conversion rate is

View-to-install is monthly installs divided by monthly listing visits, both pulled from the same window in your Partner dashboard. A well-positioned listing runs 3 to 8% in 2026, but the honest benchmark is your review cohort, because social proof explains most of the spread. Under 25 reviews converts at 1 to 2%, 25 to 200 reviews at 2 to 5%, and 200 or more reviews at 5 to 8%.

  • Formula: view-to-install = monthly installs divided by monthly listing visits, same month, same traffic source.
  • Cohort bands: under 25 reviews 1 to 2%, 25 to 200 reviews 2 to 5%, 200 or more reviews 5 to 8%.
  • Upside: (listing visits x the top of your cohort band) minus today's installs. That is free traffic converting better.
  • Reading it: below your band is a listing fight (title, icon, hero screenshot, first two lines, video, review wall). At or above it, the bottleneck is discovery volume, not the page.
  • Special case: 200 or more reviews and still under 3% means the listing itself is leaking, not the category.
  • Common mistake: blending App Store ad traffic with organic, or counting installs and visits over different windows. Both move the rate for reasons that have nothing to do with the listing.
Worked example. 2,400 listing visits and 96 installs is 96 / 2,400 = 4.0%. With 25 to 200 reviews the band is 2 to 5%, so 4.0% sits in the top half of it. At the 5% top of that band, the same 2,400 visits would produce 120 installs, about 24 more a month on traffic you are already getting.

How listing conversion is benchmarked

The math is simple: monthly installs divided by unique monthly listing visitors from your partner dashboard. The benchmark is where it gets interesting, because social proof sets the band more than anything else. A well-positioned listing converts 3 to 8% in 2026, but under-25-review apps typically sit at 1 to 2% while 200+ review apps run 5 to 8%, so the calculator grades you against your review cohort, not the blended range. It then prices the installs you unlock at the top of your cohort's band, on the traffic you already have.

5 to 8%Where 200-plus-review listings live, every discovery dollar is working twice.
3 to 5%Healthy for a growing listing, reviews are the lever that moves the band.
Under 3% with decent trafficThe listing is leaking, not your category.

Installs are only the top of the funnel: the free-to-paid conversion calculator benchmarks what happens after the install, and the Shopify app valuation calculator prices what the compounding is worth. All the free Shopify app calculators carry your installs forward.

Common questions

What is a good Shopify App Store listing conversion rate?
For a well-positioned listing, view-to-install runs roughly 3 to 8% in 2026. The spread is mostly social proof: apps with under 25 reviews tend to convert at 1 to 2%, while apps with 200+ reviews convert at 5 to 8%. Benchmark against your review cohort, not the whole range.
How much do reviews move install rate?
More than any other single factor. Apps with under 25 reviews tend to convert at 1 to 2% of listing visits; apps with 200+ reviews convert at 5 to 8%. That is a multiplier of several times on identical traffic, which is why the review ask belongs at the moment of first value, not in a random email.
What moves listing conversion the most?
In rough order: the title and icon (they win the click), the hero screenshot and first two lines of copy (they do the selling), a demo video, and the review wall, meaning recency and replies as much as the average. Merchants skim; the top of the listing decides.
How do I measure my listing conversion rate?
Unique listing visitors to installs, same month, from your Shopify partner dashboard. Keep the window consistent month to month, and separate organic listing traffic from paid if you run app store ads, so you can see what the listing itself earns.
Is my install rate the problem, or my traffic?
Below your cohort's band means a listing problem: the visitors are arriving and not converting. At band but starving means a discovery problem, which is the App Store SEO and category-ranking fight. Below 3% with decent traffic and 200+ reviews means the listing itself is leaking, not your category. This tool tells you which fight you are in.
Does Built for Shopify status matter for conversion?
It helps twice: the badge is a trust signal on the listing itself, and the status feeds placement in surfaces where high-intent merchants browse. It will not rescue a weak listing, but on a competitive one it compounds the same way reviews do.
