Hydrant · Conversion / Purchase · Cold / prospecting · Captured 2026-08-20 · By Taylor Sicard
Hydrant builds a fabricated Reddit thread to answer a GLP-1 side effect nobody is advertising against, then carries a real medical disclaimer on the fake screenshot.
“GLP-1 side effects are SO real. I'm struggling to stay motivated because I get these headaches and my mouth is SO DRY. Anyone have any tips?”

Handoff: Break
The ad is a fabricated r/GLP-1 thread whose reply is entirely medical: "On a GLP-1 it's the one side effect that sneaks up on you", plus a legal line reading "Talk to your doctor about medication side effects. Hydrant is not affiliated with or endorsed by any medication manufacturer." The page it lands on says nothing about GLP-1, dry mouth, headaches or medication anywhere in the captured viewport; it opens on "Start a routine worth keeping." over "Easy to use, easy to repeat, and made to fit real life." with a single "BUILD YOUR HABIT" CTA, a generic stock-up page for anyone. The specific claim "They're giving away 2 bags FREE right now" also does not resolve as stated: the page offers "Buy 2, Get 2 Free", a purchase-conditioned deal the magenta band calls "Your best deal on Hydrant, all year", not a giveaway and not time-limited on 2026-08-20. The audience the ad manufactured a whole thread to reach is dropped at the click, which makes this a Break rather than a soft landing.
The read
A pixel-accurate mock of the Reddit mobile app in dark mode, down to the 9:41 status bar, the up and down arrows, a 163 vote count and 18 comments. The subreddit is r/GLP-1, the poster is u/fitm0mjourney, and the question is the hook. The top reply comes from u/hydratedhayley and does the selling: "I know this will sound stupid simple but you're probably dehydrated! On a GLP-1 it's the one side effect that sneaks up on you. You quietly drink less, and the good-day energy starts slipping. So these electrolytes became my new best friend. Real fruit. Low Cal. No fake sweeteners." It closes on "They're giving away 2 bags FREE right now" and 132 upvotes. Greyed at the foot of the frame, in type roughly a fifth the size of the post, sits the compliance line: "Talk to your doctor about medication side effects. Hydrant is not affiliated with or endorsed by any medication manufacturer. Results may vary." The same lane runs as a navy search-result static, "The Search: mouth is SO DRY since starting GLP-1" over "The Solution:", and as a split-screen video pairing a woman slumped on a couch with a translucent anatomical render drinking water under "I was not expecting this side effect of GLP-1s...".
Why it works
- It sells against a side effect, not against a competitor. Every other electrolyte brand fights over athletes and hangovers. Dry mouth and reduced thirst on a GLP-1 is a genuinely new, genuinely large problem with almost nobody bidding on it, and it makes an ordinary electrolyte stick feel prescribed rather than chosen.
- The fake thread is doing objection handling in the reader's own voice. The reply concedes first, "I know this will sound stupid simple", which is exactly how a real person hedges before giving obvious advice. That concession is what buys the claim. A brand saying "you're probably dehydrated" reads as a pitch, and a stranger saying it reads as a tip.
- The disclaimer is the tell that this is a considered risk, not an accident. Somebody at Hydrant looked at a fabricated Reddit screenshot about a prescription drug class and decided it needed a not-affiliated-with-any-medication-manufacturer line. The legal caution is real even though the thread is not, which is a strange and instructive pairing.
Objective fit
Conversion / Purchase. The reply ends on a stock-up offer, two bags free with two, and the destination is a shoppable habit-builder page rather than a PDP or a subscription pitch. The GLP-1 framing implies ongoing use but the ask is a bulk purchase now, with the reorder left for the page to argue.

Variants of the same system (2)
The GLP-1 lane is the only part of Hydrant's account with its own destination discipline: every cut in it, static or video, lands on the shoppable habit-builder page rather than the catch-all product URL the rest of the account uses. Adjacent concern-specific pages run the same offer to different openings. Observed 2026-08-20.
Where it breaks
Two separate exposures. The first is platform: simulating another platform's interface is a policy question on Meta and a trademark question for Reddit, and neither is settled by adding a disclaimer. The second is that this is health-adjacent creative attached to a prescription drug class, where a fictional patient testimonial is a materially different thing from a fictional product review. Anyone tempted to copy the format should note that the disclaimer here is a fifth the size of the claim it qualifies.
