A stick-figure before and after drawn in marker on a bedroom whiteboard, selling bamboo pajamas on a night-sweats symptom.

“If you're waking up drenched, you need these.”

Handoff: Partial

The whiteboard reads "If you're waking up drenched, you need these." above a Before bamboo PJs / After stick figure, and the hand in frame holds a navy long-sleeve Cozy Earth set. The page is the right collection, Women's Pajamas, but none of the four visible tiles is that navy set: they are white, sage, pale pink and an olive sleep dress tagged Bamboo Viscose. "These" becomes 80 items, and no line on the page mentions drenched, sweating or temperature. Nothing above the fold names a price either, so the shopper who came for one specific set arrives at a grid and has to go hunting.

The read

A photo of a cheap magnetic whiteboard propped on a cream desk next to a made bed, drawn on in marker with the pen still lying in the tray. The left panel is labelled "Before bamboo PJs": a stick figure sprawled on a bed, sweat drops flying, heat lines above the head, the zzz crossed out. An arrow points right to a panel labelled "After" with a crescent moon, a figure tucked in and smiling, zzzz rising. Underneath, in the same handwriting, sits the line that carries the ad: "If you're waking up drenched, you need these." A hand lifts the actual navy Cozy Earth pajama top with white piping into the bottom third of the frame, so the product arrives as a real object in someone's bedroom rather than as a packshot. Running since 8 July 2026 to the women's pajamas collection.

Why it works

  • The drawing is a credibility decision, not a budget one. A polished before and after reads as advertising and invites the reader to argue with the claim. Marker on a whiteboard reads as a person explaining something they worked out, and that register buys a strong claim more benefit of the doubt than a designed comparison ever gets.
  • The mechanism is in the panel label. Most brands would have written "Before" over the sweating figure. This one writes "Before bamboo PJs", so cause, effect and material land in a single glance and the fabric story never has to survive the jump to body copy.
  • The hand holding the product proves ownership. Someone drew the board and someone owns the pajamas, in the same room, in one frame. That continuity is what separates this from a studio static using a whiteboard as a visual gimmick, and it is the part most imitations drop.

Objective fit

Conversion / Purchase. It routes to /collections/womens-pajamas rather than a single product page, which suits a symptom-led ad: the reader has been convinced that bamboo pajamas are the fix and still has to pick a style. The collection page inherits the job of holding a fabric promise, not a fashion one.

Where it breaks

Deliberately homemade only works when it is committed to all the way. The common failure is a half-crafted version, clean typography laid over a whiteboard texture, a stock hand, a studio-lit desk, which lands in the gap where it is neither believable nor beautiful and performs worse than either. The second risk is the claim itself. "If you're waking up drenched, you need these" sits close to a symptom promise, and a fabric that does not deliver on it buys returns instead of repeat purchase. Any brand whose product improves comfort but not the underlying problem should soften that line before borrowing the format.
