boohoo ad teardown: Boohoo

A model shot of a black frill neck blouse opens the product page using that same photograph, priced $19.50 down from $39.00.

Handoff: Partial

Visually this is as tight as a handoff gets: the frame in the ad is the hero image on the page, same pose, same black frill neck blouse, same tailored trousers. Black is preselected among the colourways and the price reads $19.50 against a struck through $39.00 with a Save 50% flag. The gap is the offer. The ad copy sells up to 60% off and an extra 15% with code GIMMIE15, while the page banner runs Extra 10% Off Almost Everything with code EXTRA and 50% Off New Season. The number the click was sold on is not the number the page honours.

The read

No text on the creative, no styling story, just the garment on a model against grey. The work is being done by the offer in the caption and by the sheer specificity of the image, which is why reusing the identical photograph on the page is the right call. Recognition is instant and the size grid is the only thing left to do.

Why it works

  • Same photograph, zero doubt. The ad frame is the page's lead image, so there is no moment where the visitor checks whether they landed on the right blouse.
  • The price does the persuading. $19.50 against $39.00 with a Save 50% badge sits directly under the product name, ahead of size selection and the bag button.
  • Two promo codes cannot both be the deal. The ad names GIMMIE15 for an extra 15%, the banner names EXTRA for an extra 10%, and nothing on the page reconciles them.

Objective fit

Discount-led acquisition on a single SKU. Add To Bag, PayPal and Apple Pay all sit above the fold, so the page is built for a fast close.

Where it breaks

Promo codes in ad copy age badly. When the sitewide code rotates and the creative does not, the page silently underdelivers on the offer that earned the click, and the shopper finds out at checkout.

Does your own handoff survive the click?

This is the same read I run on live funnels: the ad, the page, and the gap between them. Scored, free, no call required.
