A Magento to Shopify migration costs roughly $5,000 to $20,000 for a simple store, $20,000 to $75,000 for a mid-market one and $60,000 to $250,000 or more for an enterprise or B2B build with an ERP, going by three agencies' published 2026 ranges. Timelines run from about eight weeks to ten months.
- Budget the recurring lines too: Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 a month on a three-year term, and apps replacing Magento extensions commonly add $350 to $1,400 a month.
- Adobe ended standard support for Commerce 2.4.6 on August 11, 2026. Extended patches run to August 31, 2027, and they cover Adobe Commerce, not Magento Open Source.
- What breaks most: custom checkout logic, B2B and tier pricing, products with more than three options, extensions with no app equivalent, URL structure, integrations and customer passwords.

How much does a Magento
to Shopify migration
cost?
ECommerce Partners, The Commerce Shop and Ask Phill, three agencies that publish their 2026 numbers, put a simple Magento to Shopify migration at $5,000 to $20,000, a mid-market one at $20,000 to $75,000, and an enterprise or B2B build with an ERP at $60,000 to $250,000 or more. Timelines run from about eight weeks to ten months.
| Store profile | ECommerce Partners | The Commerce Shop | Ask Phill (EUR) |
|---|---|---|---|
Simple catalog, standard apps | $5,000 to $20,000 | $10,000 to $15,000 | €20,000 to €50,000 (no-code), 2 to 3 months |
Mid-market, a few integrations | $20,000 to $60,000 | $20,000 to $75,000 | €60,000 to €200,000, 4 to 6 months |
Enterprise, B2B or ERP-heavy | $60,000 to $150,000+ | $80,000 to $250,000+ | €150,000 to €700,000+, 5 to 10 months |
Published timeline | 12 to 20 weeks standard, 20 to 30 advanced | 8 to 24 weeks typical, 12 to 28 for B2B and ERP | 8 to 10 weeks at the fastest, 6 to 10 months for enterprise |
The figures come from ECommerce Partners, The Commerce Shop and Ask Phill, each retrieved on September 29, 2026. Ask Phill says more than 40 of its 200-plus Shopify migrations came from Magento or Adobe Commerce, and puts most fashion, lifestyle and beauty brands at €60,000 to €200,000 over four to six months. Shopify's own Magento migration guide covers the process in detail and prints no cost range at all. For stores still on Magento 1, Ask Phill quotes 8 to 16 weeks and €20,000 to €120,000.
ECommerce Partners says a $10,000 quote and a $100,000 quote can both be reasonable, because they describe different projects. What moves a store between rows is rarely SKU count. It's how much logic lives in Magento that isn't catalog data: checkout rules, customer-group pricing, ERP sync and custom modules. List those before you ask anyone for a quote.
When does Adobe
Commerce support end,
and does it force a move?
According to Adobe's lifecycle policy, standard support for Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 ended on August 11, 2026. Extended support, with quality and security patches at no extra cost, runs to August 31, 2027, then security-only fixes to May 31, 2028. Every store on 2.4.6 now has to upgrade or move, and upgrading is a legitimate answer.
| Release | General availability | Standard support ends | Extended support ends | Security-only ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
2.4.9 | May 12, 2026 | May 31, 2029 | To be announced | Not offered |
2.4.8 | April 8, 2025 | May 31, 2028 | To be announced | Not offered |
2.4.7 | April 9, 2024 | May 31, 2027 | May 31, 2028 | Not offered |
2.4.6 | March 14, 2023 | August 11, 2026 | August 31, 2027 | May 31, 2028 |
2.4.5 | August 9, 2022 | August 12, 2025 | August 11, 2026 | May 31, 2027 |
The dates are from Adobe's software lifecycle policy on Experience League. Adobe's release policy also says extended-support security patches go to Adobe Commerce customers only, not to the Magento Open Source code base. And from June 1, 2027, Adobe says it will stop maintaining Cloud environments on unsupported versions, up to and including suspending traffic to them.
The same page flags PHP 8.2, which some 2.4.6 installs run on, reaching end of life on December 31, 2026, and warns that PCI compliance is at risk after that. An upgrade to 2.4.8 buys standard support to May 31, 2028, and Adobe's own recommended path is its hosted Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service. If you're still deciding whether to leave at all, the Adobe Commerce vs Shopify Plus comparison covers that call. This page assumes you've made it and want the bill.
What does the move cost
beyond the build
quote?
The build quote is the one-time line. Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 a month on a three-year term, about $27,600 a year, and The Commerce Shop puts apps that replace Magento extensions at $350 to $1,400 a month. Then add redirect work, integration rebuilds and a traffic dip in the first weeks.
| Cost line | Type | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
Platform licence | Recurring | Shopify Plus from $2,300 a month on a three-year term or $2,500 on one year, with a variable fee for more complex setups; standard plans cost far less |
Theme and storefront | One-time | Custom theme or accelerator; a headless build adds a second codebase to run |
Data migration | One-time | How clean Magento's attributes are, and how much order history you move |
Apps replacing extensions | Recurring | $350 to $1,400 a month (The Commerce Shop), set by how many extensions have no native equivalent |
Integrations | One-time, then upkeep | ERP, OMS, PIM, tax and 3PL connectors rebuilt against Shopify's APIs |
Redirects and SEO | One-time | Number of indexed URLs, layered-navigation URLs and backlinked pages |
The first weeks live | One-time | Traffic dip, support tickets and fixes QA missed |
The US price is from Shopify's Plus pricing page, and the full Shopify Plus pricing breakdown covers the variable fee. The offset is what you stop paying: the Adobe licence, hosting, patching and the developer retainer that keeps 2.4.x current. The Shopify Plus vs enterprise platform TCO model sets those side by side, and the Shopify Plus cost calculator prices the fee against your own GMV.
Shopify's own migration guide calls a temporary 5% to 10% traffic dip in the first week common even with perfect redirects, and says a sustained drop in organic sessions of more than 20% needs immediate investigation. Plan cash and ad spend for the dip instead of treating it as a surprise.
What breaks most often
in a Magento to Shopify
migration?
Product and customer data usually moves cleanly. What fails is the logic around it, most often custom checkout rules, B2B and tier pricing, products with more than three options, extensions with no Shopify equivalent, URL structure, integrations and customer passwords. Each has a known fix if the audit finds it before launch week does.
| What breaks | Why it breaks on Shopify | The fix |
|---|---|---|
Custom checkout logic | Magento lets developers change checkout directly in code. Shopify's checkout only extends through its own APIs, and Shopify Scripts stopped running on June 30, 2026. | Rebuild discount, shipping and payment rules as Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions. Port nothing to Scripts. |
B2B, customer-group and tier pricing | Magento prices by customer group. Shopify prices B2B buyers through catalogs, and non-Plus plans get up to three active B2B catalogs. | Map every customer group to a catalog. Unlimited catalogs, direct assignment to companies and deposits need Plus. |
Configurable products | Shopify allows up to three options and 2,048 variants per product. Magento configurables often carry more attributes than that. | Split products, move extra attributes to metafields, or use an options app. |
Extensions with no equivalent | Mature Magento stores run many extensions, and some of them enforce business rules. | Sort each into native feature, app, custom app or retire. Retire more than feels comfortable. |
URL structure | Magento URLs often carry .html and category paths; Shopify uses fixed /products/ and /collections/ paths. | Redirect every indexed URL. Shopify allows 100,000 redirects, or 20 million on Plus, and a redirect only fires once the old path returns a 404. |
Integrations | ERP, OMS, PIM and 3PL connectors were built against Magento's data model. | Rebuild or replace each connector, then test orders, inventory and refunds end to end. |
Customer passwords | Passwords can't be migrated in a usable form. | Import customers, then send account activation emails in batches after launch. |
Sources: the Scripts date is from Shopify's developer changelog, the B2B limits from the April 2, 2026 changelog that opened B2B to non-Plus plans, the option and variant limits from Shopify's help center, the redirect rules from Shopify's redirect documentation, and the password and URL notes from Shopify's Magento guide.
The pattern I see most often is a team that audits data carefully and audits rules barely at all. Products, customers and orders move with tools. A cart price rule that gives one wholesale group free freight above a threshold doesn't show up in any export. It shows up when that customer calls. Magento's layered navigation is the same story: Shopify filters collections differently, so every filterable attribute needs a decision.
Two of these have their own pages. Checkout rules now belong in Shopify Functions, and life after Shopify Scripts covers what replaces what. For the integration layer, whether a brand needs an ERP at all is a useful test before you rebuild a connector you might not need.
What belongs on a
Shopify migration
checklist?
A Shopify migration checklist has six phases: pre-migration audit, data, SEO and redirects, integrations and extensions, launch, and the first 30 days. The audit decides the budget, so it comes first and runs longer than teams expect. It's written for a Magento source store, but most of it applies to any replatform.
1. Pre-migration audit
- Export every active URL with its organic traffic, revenue and backlinks, and flag the pages you can't afford to lose.
- List every extension and custom module, and write down the business rule each one enforces.
- Document customer groups, tier prices, catalog price rules and cart price rules.
- Map every integration: ERP, OMS, PIM, tax, 3PL, email, reviews, loyalty and subscriptions.
- Choose the Shopify plan from those requirements. B2B catalogs, extra stores and checkout rules are the usual reasons for Plus.
2. Data
- Decide how much order history moves, and how far back it goes.
- Map attribute sets to Shopify options and metafields before import, not after.
- Flag configurable products that exceed three options or 2,048 variants.
- Import products first, then customers, then orders, so the relationships hold.
- Spot-check prices, compare-at prices, inventory and images on a sample of SKUs.
3. SEO and redirects
- Build a 301 map from every indexed Magento URL, including .html and category-path versions.
- Keep product and collection handles close to the old slugs.
- Carry over titles, meta descriptions and structured data, then check them, because they often arrive truncated.
- Submit the new sitemap in Search Console on launch day.
4. Integrations and extensions
- Sort each extension into native feature, app, custom app or retire.
- Rebuild checkout rules as Shopify Functions.
- Test ERP order, inventory, refund and cancellation flows end to end.
- Confirm tax and payments, including any change of gateway.
5. Launch
- Freeze catalog and content changes on Magento ahead of cutover.
- Lower the DNS TTL 24 to 48 hours before the switch, as Shopify's guide advises.
- Place test orders across every payment method and shipping zone.
- Run a final import of orders and customers created during the freeze.
- Keep Magento read-only, not deleted, until the first month closes.
6. The first 30 days
- Crawl the live site for 404s and redirect chains every day in week one.
- Watch Search Console coverage and your top keywords, and investigate any sustained organic drop over 20%.
- Send customer account activation emails in batches.
- Reconcile orders, payouts and inventory against the ERP daily.
- Cancel Magento hosting and extension licences only after the numbers reconcile.
When should you not
migrate from Magento
to Shopify?
Don't migrate when the logic that makes you money lives in Magento code and has no clean home on Shopify, or when the calendar is against you. A store upgraded to 2.4.8 has standard support until May 31, 2028, which leaves room to plan the move properly.
- Your pricing is the product. Contract pricing per account, quote-to-order workflows or configure-price-quote logic become custom apps you own forever.
- Your store views run different rules. Several storefronts whose checkout, tax or pricing logic differ are expensive to rebuild on any platform.
- You just paid the upgrade bill. A recent upgrade and an in-house Magento team that ships well make the maintenance argument weaker for a while.
- You'd launch into peak season. Schedule the cutover for after peak.
- Nobody owns the audit. Without an internal owner for data, redirects and integrations, a dip meant to last a few weeks can last a quarter.
Outside those cases, most mid-market brands I talk to end up on Shopify, and what's left to decide is how. The ecommerce platform comparison maps every platform by revenue tier, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud vs Shopify Plus covers the other enterprise exit.
Budget for the logic,
not the catalog.
The catalog is the cheap part of leaving Magento. The expensive part is the logic Magento was running: pricing rules, checkout conditions, integrations and the URL structure Google learned. Price those first and the published ranges become a quote you can defend.
I've seen replatforms from the merchant side and from inside Shopify's partner ecosystem, and the projects that go over budget usually found their rules late. If you want a second read on scope before an agency prices it, that's the Shopify Plus migration work I do with brands.
Questions brands ask
before leaving
Magento.
How much would it cost to migrate my website to Shopify?
Published 2026 agency ranges put a simple Magento store at $5,000 to $20,000, a mid-market store at $20,000 to $75,000, and an enterprise or B2B build with an ERP at $60,000 to $250,000 or more. Add the recurring lines: Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 a month on a three-year term.
Is there a Shopify migration app available?
Yes. Shopify's free Store Migration app imports products and customers, but Magento isn't among the platforms it connects to directly, and it doesn't move orders, SEO data or reviews. Magento stores usually use CSV imports, a third-party migration app from the Shopify App Store, or a partner for complex catalogs.
How long does a Magento to Shopify migration take?
Published timelines run from about eight weeks for a clean catalog with standard apps to six to ten months for an enterprise build with ERP integration or a headless storefront. Mid-market projects typically land between three and six months, and the audit, integrations and QA take more of that time than the data import.
Will I lose SEO traffic moving from Magento to Shopify?
Expect a short dip. Shopify's own migration guide calls a 5% to 10% dip in the first week common even with perfect redirects, and treats a sustained organic drop over 20% as something to investigate immediately. The protection is a 301 map covering every indexed Magento URL, including .html and category-path versions.
Does Magento support end in 2026?
For one release line, yes. Adobe ended standard support for Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 on August 11, 2026, with extended support to August 31, 2027 and security-only fixes to May 31, 2028. Adobe says extended-support patches don't cover Magento Open Source. Version 2.4.8 has standard support until May 31, 2028.
Scope the logic before you sign the SOW.
If a Magento move is on your roadmap, I can pressure-test the scope, the rules and the integrations before an agency prices it.
