Eight Sleep ad teardown: Try the Pod stress free

An ad whose entire offer is renting the Pod lands on a page where Pay now at $2,799 is selected and Rent monthly is an unclicked tab.

Handoff: Break

The ad puts Try the Pod stress free over Rent as long as you like. Return anytime, above the Hub unit with its COOLING label and a folded cover beside it. The page opens on Pod 5 at $2,799, struck through from $2,999, under a row of four tabs where Pay now is already selected and Rent monthly sits beside it unclicked. The sticky bar at the base of the fold reads $3,098 includes Autopilot plan next to a Checkout button, so the first number a renter sees is higher than the one they were never quoted. A visitor who clicked because renting removed the price has to spot a tab to get back to the offer.

The read

A vertical frame in soft blue grey studio light. Two lines of black type sit at the top, a headline and a smaller line under it. Below, cropped by the left edge, stands the Pod's tower shaped Hub in dark textured fabric, the figure eight mark embossed on its face and the word COOLING printed small below that. A thin pale blue line traces across the unit like a temperature curve, and a folded quilted cover sits at the lower right. No price, no bed, no person and no logo lockup appear in the frame.

Why it works

  • Rent is the objection handler. The barrier on a four figure sleep device is the four figures, and renting deletes the number from the conversation entirely rather than discounting it.
  • Stress free and return anytime do the same job twice. One line removes the money risk, the other removes the commitment risk, which is the pair of doubts that stalls this category.
  • The hardware is shown, not the bedroom. Cropping to the Hub and the cover keeps the ad about a device that attaches to the mattress you already own, which is the fact that makes the offer plausible.

Objective fit

The creative is selling a rental, which is a recurring commitment rather than a one off purchase, and it is a long running unit that started in June. The page it buys is built to sell the outright purchase first.

Where it breaks

When an ad's only offer is renting, the rental has to be the state the page loads in. Deep link the creative to the Rent monthly tab so the price the shopper was promised is the price they land on.
