Brixton ad teardown: Brixton

A Ford collab lockup lands on the collab collection itself, 21 products deep, with the limited edition line held back to a footer block.

Handoff: Continuous

The ad's lockup is a scripted Ford Motor Co. over BRIXTON MFG. CO., with LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION beneath it. The page opens on BRIXTON X FORD COLLECTION, with MADE FOR THE ROAD AHEAD above it and 21 products in the grid, so the collab the ad announced is the entire page. The limited edition framing does survive, but only in a LIMITED EDITION, LASTING IMPACT block sitting under the whole grid. The washed tee the ad shot from behind is not the lead tile, so the viewer has to scan for it.

The read

A co branded lockup sits in the top third, with the collection line under it. The model is shot from behind so the back print, a reproduction of a vintage Ford pickup print ad, becomes the actual product shot. A yellow classic truck and a rusted water tank fill the rest of the frame, which dates the whole thing without a line of copy.

Why it works

  • Borrowed recognition. The Ford script does the work of being known, so Brixton only has to attach its own mark underneath it.
  • The print is the product. Shooting from behind makes the back graphic the hero, which is the only reason to pick this tee over any other white tee.
  • Period dressing. The truck, the tank and the washed colour place a decade, so the drop reads as archive rather than as merchandise.

Objective fit

A collection announcement pointed at the collection page is the correct pairing, and the Buy 3+ Get 20% Off badge on every tile gives the arriving click something to act on.

Where it breaks

The page's offer, Buy 3+ Get 20% Off, appears nowhere on the creative. The viewer arrives with no reason to build a three item basket, which is exactly what the grid is priced around.
